ARTIST STORIES: An Introduction

Every artist has stories, about their life, what is important to them, how do they create their works, what happens to them - do they live or die? Are these stories important? Should they matter or the artwork stands (or falls) on its own; no words, no narrative, no bloviating curatorial art speak.

Has anything changed in the decade of 202X? The obvious answer is yes, dramatically, and perhaps in a way whose trajectory cannot be altered or undone. Is beauty dead? Can artwork speak for itself or is it umbilically attached to the race, color, gender and sexual orientation of its’ maker which predetermine whose work gets to cross the art patriarchy bridge over the moat of ignored and unforgiven art? Do those who collect art no longer love it, they just store it until valuations rise or artists die and their investment/tax shelter/status totem pays huge dividends?

Everywhere, at every hour, in cramped studios, large warehouse or loft spaces, garages and basements, there are artists forever inspired and haunted by our ability to create and perceive visual works of art. Centuries of human artistic creations, few of which are on display, most of which have either been lost to history or are forever under wraps in art storage do not lessen today’s artists from creating more of it. To what end?

Mostly, the visual and written content of this website is focused on one artist, creating art, occasionally looking up and staring at the contemporary art world as it presents itself, sometimes snuggling into the comforts of artist stories of the past which inspire, whisper warnings, or amuse. Art lovers are welcome here.
